Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ: "I gave instructions not to attend the CHP's Saraçhane rally! There are two main reasons for this..."
Ümit Özdağ , Chairman of the Victory Party , explained two main reasons behind the CHP 's instruction not to attend the Saraçhane rally.
"I GAVE INSTRUCTIONS"Özdağ made the following statements;
"I gave verbal and written instructions to the Zafer Party Istanbul district organizations not to attend the rally to be organized by the CHP in Saraçhane this evening. There are two main reasons for this:
1- The debate, protest and polarization caused by a provocative, thoughtless and impertinent cartoon in the humor magazine Leman has provided the most extreme elements of the ruling bloc with an opportunity for new provocations. It is possible that they may attempt to carry this provocation to Saraçhane. It is out of the question for the Victory Party organizations to be part of such a provocation process.
2) The rally is a rally organized by the CHP.
I hope it goes smoothly and successfully.We wish CHP, like all of us, to be successful in the struggle for the rule of law and democracy. However, the Zafer Party and probably other parties were not invited to the rally by the CHP. The Victory Party also organized “No Amnesty for Mehmetçik killers” rallies.
We did not invite the CHP, and we did not blame them for not attending.
It makes no sense to blame another party by asking, “Why aren’t the Victory Party organizations attending the CHP rally?” As the chairman of a political party who has experienced the most severe pressures on the opposition by a politicized judiciary with hostile criminal law, we will continue to defend the rights of Ekrem İmamoğlu and all mayors and municipal employees who are being crushed with hostile criminal law, just as we did yesterday.
Our friends with the Ministry of Justice have held preliminary meetings for me to visit Silivri Penitentiary next week. I hope the necessary permission is granted. In addition, a meeting was held to visit Mr. İmamoğlu's valuable family and a date was determined by the private secretaries.
We will continue to be careful against provocations along with these.”
